Musician, Kenny Rogers, also passionate about photography, called Gerry Mulligan at home in Darien, and asked him to come for a photo shoot for a book that Kenny was putting together of portraits of well-known people. Gerry welcomed the opportunity to see Kenny again. Not having brought along a saxophone for the shoot, they used music that Gerry had with him on his trip to New York City that day.
The photo by Kenny Rogers, shown here on the Library of Congress’ “Information Bulletin” of the June 1999 volume, accompanies an article about the inauguration of the Gerry Mulligan Collection at the LOC.
