18-year-old Sean McCoy of Raleigh, North Carolina was the Grand-Prize Winner in the 2024 Gerry Mulligan Jazz Challenge. The Gerry & Franca Mulligan Foundation sponsors the Jazz Contest each year and received entries from all over the country. High school musicians were judged on sound, technique, intonation, and presentation.
