For weeks, the music world has been buzzing over Guernsey’s December 2nd auction – being held live in New York City – and available around the world via Liveauctioneers.com and Invaluable.com – featuring the most extraordinary guitars, other treasured instruments and unreleased audio tapes by iconic performers.
Importantly, the auction will also feature approx. thirty lots constituting the Gerry Mulligan Jazz Collection. Coming directly from Gerry’s estate, there are four saxophones, a clarinet, handwritten music and personal effects of every description.
In 2000 Gerry’s wife Franca donated his gold-plated Conn Baritone Saxophone to the Library of Congress, where it is now on permanent display at the Library as part of the Gerry Mulligan collection.
The Juilliard School of Music was the recipient of Gerry’s second Conn Baritone, donated by Franca for the use of the students, and now his third Conn Baritone is being offered in this week’s auction in New York, along with a Selmer Tenor, a Selmer Alto, a Borgani Curved Soprano, and his Buffet Clarinet.
These, and other pieces from Gerry’s studio, including original music and personal items, are being sold to benefit The Gerry & Franca Mulligan Foundation, which continues to fulfill Gerry’s wishes of providing music education and instruments to young talented needy musicians.
Guernsey’s, long known for producing innovative and exciting auctions, is particularly delighted to be involved in an event with so many important and unique items.
